MLJ Adoptions update on Haiti hosting and adoption
Since the initial earthquake that has devastated Haiti, we have been contacted by several wonderful non-profit organizations that assist children in need and orphans. These organizations have inquired regarding hosting and/or adopting children from Haiti. Most recently, there were numerous emails and blogs from organizations regarding the arrival of up to 300 Haitian children in Indiana within a day or two. In support of these efforts and our passion to help the orphans of the world, we shared this information. A similar opportunity has been reported to have been successful in Pittsburgh. As we continued to research the details of this effort and how we could be involved, we reached out to the governors office and the Department of Child Services (DCS). It is our understanding that there have been meetings and discussions regarding this opportunity; however, the difficulties and legalities are inhibiting efforts by all organizations, non-profit and governmental. We continue to work with several non-profits looking into creating a hosting opportunity. We await more information from the Indiana Governor's office and DCS regarding their involvement and support. Due to the overwhelming response and outpouring of compassion and MLJ Adoptions' commitment to finding homes for orphans, in conjunction with non-profit organizations, we are hoping to sponsor a Haitian hosting opportunity, whether or not the state is able to assist in a successful hosting program.
MLJ Adoptions has established hosting opportunities for children from Ukraine and Nicaragua. We have also been looking into opportunities in Latvia and Bulgaria. This has been a wonderful opportunities for children and families who are interested in adoption.
In addition to Ukraine and Nicaragua, we have established adoption programs in Congo and Honduras. There is an orphan crisis in Haiti, just like there is an orphan crisis around the world. It is estimated that there are more than 147 million orphans worldwide. The situation is similar in the war torn Democratic Republic of Congo, where there are many waiting children of all ages, currently available for referral. The need is great and the children are precious. We are encouraged by today's outpouring of so many who have a heart for the orphans of the world, and we hope to help each of you reach out to orphans in need.
We will remain in contact with updates regarding hosting children from Haiti and caring for the children of the world. It is our hope that the interest and momentum will continue, you will continue to research orphan support and adoption, you will establish orphan ministries in your churches, and you will allow MLJ Adoptions the honor of helping you with those efforts.
